Erarta visitors are welcome to use the museum guided tour service that offers:

A general excursion round all the floors and exhibition halls

You will see how different and versatile the Erarta collection of contemporary art is. You will also learn about Russian artists of the 2nd half of the 20th century, about the main artistic directions that got developed in their works.

Theme excursions

One may consider contemporary art one huge single world, or, on the contrary, view it as multiple different worlds, each having its own creator – an artist. Whatever it be, art provides us with enormous food for thought. In their works some artists concentrate on every-day problems of our society, some philosophize on remote issues, and the other are trying to make the time come to a standstill to capture the beauty of the world, etc. Our visitors can choose theme excursions that are in line with their interests and find out new information about contemporary art regarding this very aspect.

Our theme excursions are:

1. Contemporary person and society
2. Biblical and mythological scenes in contemporary art
3. Painting as an art of memory
4. Independent art in Leningrad in the 1960s—1980s.

Aware of the youngest audience, Erarta museum developed a special program of tours for children. These tours take place in the museum and have either a standard form of a lecture or the form of an interactive game.

General children excursions of the museum

Children are told everything about contemporary art, its kinds, genres, streams, and artists in clear and entertaining manner. The excursion is designed for secondary and higher school children and lasts about 90 minutes.

Theme excursions for children

Children learn a lot of new facts about contemporary art by plunging into the atmosphere where it is created. Theme excursions present artistic versatility in various aspects so that each of them does not contradict the previous one.

Subjects of excursions:

1. Animals for small children.

Children love animals. With wide-open eyes they watch them in the zoo, try to touch a cat or a dog passing by in the street, to feed pigeons… Definitely, artists when they were children did the same and probably are still doing that… Many of them include various animals, birds, and insects in their pictures. Together with children we are going to see how contemporary artists create their animals, real and imaginary ones and what materials do they use. This excursion is for primary school children. It lasts 40 minutes.

2. Where shall I study?

The epigraph to this excursion is an extract from V. Mayakovsky’s poem: «I’ve got my ages growing,/ I’m going to be seventeen./Where shall I work then,/What shall I do?» During this program children learn about professions that are directly related to art, such as sculptors, art critic, artist, icon-painter, etc. Where do you study for these jobs? Where do you work afterwards and how much do you earn? Children will get answers to all of these questions in the halls of the museum. The excursion is primary and secondary school children. It lasts about 90 minutes.

3. Addresses. Petersburg and the outskirts.

It would be interesting to look at the world with somebody else’s eyes just for a minute. This program offers such an opportunity. School children will try to guess the place in Petersburg or the outskirts that contemporary artists depicted. The excursion is designed for secondary and higher school children and lasts about 90 minutes.
