Erarta Museum of Contemporary Art presents an exhibition of paintings by Ksenia Vlasova exploring family stories and secrets, folk tales and collective memory, and, ultimately, a woman’s life in a confined, nearly ritualistic, space
Despite their traditional role as memory keepers, women’s voices have far too frequently been subdued or went unheard altogether. These artworks oscillate between the points of female invisibility and inner strength. Someone’s whispering the words, but is there anyone to hear? Someone’s attentively watching while preferring to stay in the background. And there are yet others who seem to blend with their surroundings, testifying to the centuries’-old tradition of obliterating female agency.
