Breeze in the Hair
1 August 2026 — 11 September 2026
Erarta Museum of Contemporary Art presents a touring exhibition made possible through a collaboration with Home by the Sea, a luxury holiday resort by the Gulf of Finland
- Art meets nature: Erarta steps outside the museum walls and travels to the shores of the Gulf of Finland in search of inspiration
- A selection of artworks channelling the vibes of a summer vacation and carefree joy
- An outdoor escape and a museum experience rolled into one: admire the works by contemporary artists, take a stroll along the shore, sip an exhibition-inspired cocktail, and take pictures on a beach swing
As part of our collaboration with Home by the Sea holiday resort, Erarta Museum of Contemporary Art offers you a chance to combine your nature escape with a museum experience: spend a day outdoors, slow down, unwind, and hit the reset button. The symbiosis of art and nature becomes more relevant than ever, as evidenced by the emergence of country galleries and outdoor art festivals. Transplanted from the usual exhibition space to a nature resort, a painting becomes part of the landscape, an environmental element, more accessible and engaging. This unconventional experience not only makes an outdoor escape more memorable, but encourages co-creation and change of perspective.
In our times of constant information overload, art is our main refuge. It teaches us to notice the beauty in the quotidian, brings joy and emotional stability. The exhibition’s centrepiece is a vision of an ‘empty,’ ‘unfulfilled’ person, a perplexed character whose inner void can only be filled and balanced by art and nature.
For the Breeze in the Hair exhibition, Erarta’s curatorial team chose paintings full of vibrant, sunny colours. Some of the pictured scenes conjure a festive atmosphere and provide a real energy boost, others give comfort and invite unhurried contemplation, while the humour and irony intrinsic to contemporary art offer tension relief while sustaining depth of perception. Art can also prompt creativity, encouraging the viewer to pick up paints and brushes (or natural materials) and craft their own visions, turning the observer into co-creator and offering a better insight into one’s self.
Home by the Sea resort was chosen for this project for a number of reasons. A luxury escape on the shores of the Gulf of Finland, it is perfect for a quiet and meaningful family getaway. Strolling along its vast coastline, anyone can feel like a great impressionist painter of yore, encountering the pure joy of being face to face with nature. Our exhibition is bound to make this experience even more intense and profound.
