Stas Bags

Born in Leningrad in 1984, Stas graduated from the Human Anatomy and Physiology Department of the Herzen University's School of Science.

The artist’s journey began in the streets: quick execution of panel pieces amid the urban milieu helped him hone the skills necessary for mastering his environment by adjusting to the given circumstances while retaining complete creative freedom. Between 2002 and 2007, as part of the Milk & Vodka artistic collective, Bags transformed the exhibition spaces of private galleries in Moscow and St. Petersburg and the then-popular lofts, conjuring up a distinctively menacing and unreal atmosphere in these public spaces.

Nowadays the artist does not limit his practice to a single medium, creating paintings, sculptures, and installations. Candid and intimate as they are, Stas Bags’s creations nevertheless explore global issues, reflecting the artist’s ruminations on human nature and the impossible interconnections of opposites.
