Andrey Lyublinsky
Born in Leningrad in 1972, professional artist and designer, graduate of the School of the Design of the Alexander von Stieglitz St. Petersburg State Academy of Art and Design, Andrey Lyublinsky lives and works in St. Petersburg.
The artist is working on the cusp of visual art and design, toying with the notions of form, volume, and space. His method resembles an artistic construction set in which simple and clear shapes and modules are used to assemble an object, a phenomenon, or a character. The artist mainly builds anthropomorphic and zoomorphic figures out of geometric pieces. All of his creations are bright, ironic, and optimistic. They often reference the Russian avant-garde, especially when it comes to colour choices. The figures either employ solid colours like black, white, and red or capture the viewers’ attention with their garish fluorescence. Lyublinsky is the artist behind Perm’s iconic red men, the gigantic yellow ducky in Moscow’s Gorky Park, the crocodile found at the Flacon Design Factory, and the large-scale Friendship of Peoples installation at VDNKh.
