Alexander Pesterev

Born in 1958 in Gryazovets, Vologda Oblast, Alexander graduated from the Ivanovo Art College. He currently lives and works in Totma.

In Alexander Pesterev’s oeuvre, vibrant and emotional pictures alternate with nearly monochrome contemplative ones. Rather than simply focusing on what is being depicted, the artist completely dissolves himself in his subject. His still lifes and landscapes, often portraying the environs of Totma, its churches and houses, are usually not overly detailed, but conjure up vivid visions. Pesterev’s artworks reflect a desire for self-discovery: the artist’s thoughts seem to be layered on the canvas with every paint stroke.
