Boris Borshch

Boris Borshch was born in Mogilev in 1948. Having moved to Leningrad in 1982, he joined the local underground artist circles, exhibiting his works as part of the Society for Experimental Visual Art (TEII). At present he is a member of the free association of artists known as the Desperate Painters.

For many years, the artist has been painting strictly from life. Nevertheless, his works are not mere copies of nature, and in his painting practice Borshch makes no attempt to simplify or organise the world around us. Demonstrating a kind of artistic daring, he seems to find joy and inspiration in the very chaos of life. According to Boris Borshch, his aim is to express his feelings and painterly temperament through colour. Art, maintains the painter, requires no intellectualism.
