Pavel Otdelnov
Born in 1979 in Dzerzhinsk, Moscow Oblast, Pavel Otdelnov graduated from the Vasily Surikov Moscow State Academic Art Institute (where he also completed postgraduate studies) and the Institute of Contemporary Art in Moscow.
Otdelnov’s preferred genre is industrial landscape, with a particular focus on post-Soviet industrial architecture. Experimenting with light and shadow, the artist depicts large desolate expanses featuring building façades, factory chimneys, and power lines against the backdrop of an endless monochrome landscape. Using painting, installation, and other media, he reconstructs long-forgotten stories and repurposes familiar imagery, initiating a dialogue between his own experiences and a wider social and political context.
