Anatoliy Zaslavsky

Anatoliy was born in Kiev in 1939. In 1965, he graduated from the Mural Painting Department of the Vera Mukhina Leningrad Higher School of Design and Applied Arts.

Anatoliy Zaslavsky was perhaps the most well-known St. Petersburg-based expressionist painter, a true classic who left a mark on an entire generation of artists. Together with Boris Borshch, Irina Vasilyeva, Arthur Molev, Yulia Sopina, Vladimir Yashke, Georgy Mudryonov, Alexander Rumyantsev, and some others, he formed the Desperate Painters artistic collective. Zaslavsky was a peerless colour stylist. In his works painting comes alive in its intuitive and emotional quality and delicacy of feeling. At the same time, he treated his artistic practice as a deeply private means of self-cultivation and world cognition.

Anatoliy Zaslavsky passed away on 15 July 2026.
