Pavel Babenko

Pavel Babenko was born in 1946 in Kamchatka. Upon graduation from the Visual Arts Department of the Kuban State University in 1974, Pavel decided to stay in Krasnodar, where he lived and worked until his death on 7 October 2024.

Pavel Babenko’s paintings are full of expressive emotions. The artist repeatedly painted typical objects – bottles, bundles of scallions, pieces of smoked chicken and bacon – each time adding new dimensions of meaning. Babenko was perfectly honest in his dialogue with the viewer, as if inviting the latter to join him at the very same table he painted and start a candid conversation. The artist managed to transform the traditionally low-key genre of still life into a means of expressing painful things left unsaid.
