Robert Ovakimian

Robert Ovakimian was born in 1966 in Kapan (Armenia) and graduated from the Alexander von Stieglitz St. Petersburg State Academy of Art and Design. Robert was a student of one of the most prominent artists of the Russian avant-garde who attended classes at Marc Chagall’s Vitebsk studio, Solomon Gershov.

Ovakimian’s abstract and semi-abstract paintings are full of colour, their vibrant palette being reminiscent of sunny Armenia. The artist is interested in conveying dynamics: even the stylised forms in his compositions are in constant motion like flames. The visual language of his paintings evokes natural forms because nature, according to the artist, is always perfect. For Ovakimian, it is the unfailing source of inspiration.
