Alexander Kabin

Alexander was born in 1978 in Severodvinsk, Arkhangelsk Oblast, and earned an engineering degree. The Internet proved to be the main source of information for the provincial artist who used it to fill the gaps in his knowledge of the current trends in contemporary art. Kabin currently lives and works in Yaroslavl.

Alexander Kabin is an artist of the North, and therefore his palette comprises subdued colours, including the all-pervading ‘kabinesque’ grey. This offers the painter an opportunity to demonstrate his skill of nuanced halftones. Kabin’s style can be defined as ‘expressive realism’: it is as if the artist is looking through an imaginary camera lens adjusting acutance and focus; at the same time, his pictures are not perceived by the viewer as photographs, but rather as something much greater – processed and conceptualised in the artist’s consciousness.
