Konstantin Eryomenko

about the artist

Born in Novosibirsk in 1977, Konstantin Eryomenko graduated from the Novosibirsk Art College. He currently lives and works in his native city.

Eryomenko’s oeuvre can be divided into two major strands: contemporary applied art and contemporary art per se. In his former capacity, he spray paints cars, furniture, and home appliances. In the latter guise, Konstantin takes part in alternative shows and action art events, inventing his own myths and ingeniously interpreting those of the others. Marrying aerography with Socialist Realism, he creates compositions mimicking propaganda clichés, as well as portraits of important Soviet figures in a style referencing Andy Warhol, but with a Sots-Art twist. The reintroduction of the Socialist Realism narrative is, according to the artist, a first step towards the creation of a new ‘Capitalist Realism’ style.
