Romero Britto

about the artist

The Brazilian self-taught artist Romero Britto was born on 6 October 1963 in Recife. In the late 1980s, he moved to Miami, Brazil. Around roughly the same time, he travelled to Paris, discovering the art of Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso, which had a profound impact on his signature style. Britto’s subtle understanding of popular culture was instrumental to his collaborations with such international brands as Audi, Bentley, Coca-Cola, Disney, Evian, Hublot, FIFA, and Samsung. The sculptor’s monumental creations can be spotted across central squares, sports arenas, and airports the world over – in London, Tel Aviv, Miami, Stockholm, Moscow, São Paulo, Washington, Hollywood, and NYC.

The use of vibrant colours, fun subjects, and abstract patterns has won Romero Britto millions of admirers, from the British Queen, singer Shakira, and writer Paulo Coelho to countless big city residents who find joy and hope in his art.
