Pyotr Okhta

Pyotr Batrakov (known professionally as Okhta, 1948–2004) was a Leningrad/St. Petersburg based artist and one of the mainstays of the Pushkinskaya-10 art centre, earning the moniker of ‘Household Spirit’ for his allegiance to this institution and special dedication to its dwellers. Initially balancing his art practice with teaching at a secondary art school, with time he fully devoted his efforts to Pushkinskaya-10, feeding penniless artists, consoling the desperate, and finding new talents, contemporary art connoisseurs, and collectors.
