Andrey Novikov

Born in 1985 in Stavropol, Andrey Novikov earned his professional degrees at the Pyatigorsk Art College and the North-Caucasus Federal University. He currently lives and works in the UK.

Essentially a realist painter, Novikov uses chromatic inversion, replacing actual colours with their complimentaries. His art explores the universal issues of modern life: alienation, frustration, confusion and the search for new ideals, heroes, values, and goals. His paintings are cinematically realistic and philosophically profound. The artist alternately blows up his characters, turning them into large-scale superheroes, and introduces toy-like personages that he animates and imbues with a distinct personality.
