Rinat Akhmetov
about the artist
Born in Kazan in 1968, Rinat Akhmetov studied art and design at the Kazan Art College.
The artist’s signature experimental technique combines wood, iron, copper, aluminium, enamel, brass, and oil. Rinat particularly values the material’s texture and history, choosing wood that used to be a part of an old Kazan house and stores countless memories in its notches or a sheet of roofing iron on which years have left their rusty marks. The shine of polished metal and the mysterious radiance of gold leaf contribute to the resulting effect.
