Baidakov

Konstantin was born in 1980 in Severodvinsk, Arkhangelsk Oblast. Member of the Artists’ Union of Russia since 2010 and part of Gallery 22 independent artistic community, he currently lives and works in Severodvinsk.

In his creative practice, Baidakov resorts to different media, creating paintings, drawings, prints, ready-mades, installations, and video art. His artworks display a very northern kind of conciseness, as if shaped by harsh climate and innate hardiness of the coast dwellers. His creations evoke the nature of the Russian North with its straight horizons and low skies, flat sandy coasts of the cold sea with fiery sunsets and the wash of grey waves. By incising his canvases, the artist reveals the naturally ragged edges of their surface, transforming it into a landscape wherein the forest meets the river, the sea meets the sky, and the polar day meets the white night. Baydakov's abstraction is the ultimate expression of life amid the northern nature.
