Cecile Plaisance
about the artist
In 2008, after working on the European financial markets for 10 years, the French born artist Cécile Plaisance started to pursue her true passion – photography. Inspired by the art of Helmut Newton and his posed works created for glossy magazines, she came up with the idea of using Barbie dolls as her models. Ever since, snapshots of plastic dolls became the trademark feature of Cécile’s oeuvre. Combining them with live models, the artist explores the subjects of gender and social roles. Testifying to her commercial success, her works are part of a number of important collections, from the King of Morocco to the collection of Jo Malone, CEO of the eponymous brand, to name only a few.
