Fantasy, myth, historical facts, characters from different epochs sculpted from a variety of materials populate the diverse creative universe of Alexander Rukavishnikov. His artistic ideas sourced from various chapters in the global cultural history reveal the determination of a researcher and the emotional sensitivity of a traveller. Prehistoric art, ancient traditions of China and Japan, Slavic folklore, and Early Russian art feed the artist’s imagination and guide him in his discovery of the world. Rukavishnikov’s sculptures perfectly encapsulate many qualities: psychological dimension of imagery, beauty of form, intricate compositions, exactness of scale, delicacy of detail, and richness of texture.
