Alain Bonnefoit
The French artist Alain Bonnefoit was born in Montmartre in 1937. After graduating from the École des Arts Appliqués and the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, he moved to Brussels and enrolled at the Engraving and Sculpture Department of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. Having returned from Belgium, between 1961 and 1963 he worked in the Paris studio of the renowned sculptor and Auguste Rodin’s student Antoniucci Volti.
It was in painting, however, that Bonnefoit found the ultimate form of artistic expression. The defining point came with his move to Tuscany, where Alain discovered the beauty of both the Italian landscapes and the female nude. In the late 1990s, the artist found new inspiration in mixed media and started creating large-scale works out of recycled materials such as paper and burlap.
