Yuri Gusev

Yuri Gusev (1939–2018) graduated from the Leningrad Academy of Mines, Valentin Serov Leningrad Art College, and Repin Institute for Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. He was also a part of Grigory Dlugach’s study group that analysed compositional principles of the old masters’ paintings in the halls of the State Hermitage Museum. For many years, Gusev lectured at the Theatre Academy.

The artist perfected a signature style in which colour drawing gradually morphs into painting. His metaphoric canvases, just like the fragments of his philosophical and poetic texts, explore self-discovery and introspection.
