Ekaterina Posetselskaya
Ekaterina Posetselskaya, an artist based between St. Petersburg and Paris, was born in 1965 in Leningrad and graduated from the Vera Mukhina Leningrad Higher School of Art and Design. She has been active as an easel graphic artist and book illustrator, having illustrated nearly three dozen editions, including children’s books.
Posetselskaya is unrivalled when it comes to urban landscapes. The city is always the main protagonist of her pastels which leave no room whatsoever for human figures or genre scenes. The ambience of her works has to do with the medium: pastel creates texture throughout the entire pictorial plane, while the images seem to imitate the grainy quality of city walls, pavements, and roofs. Moreover, pastel drawing shuns clear and rigid outlines, causing the cityscapes to appear soft and enveloping.
