Ilya Evdokimov
Ilya was born in 1973 in Ershov, Saratov Oblast. In 1988, he entered the Painting Department of the Ivanovo Art College, and in 1997, graduated from the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS) in Moscow. He currently lives in Moscow, mostly working as set and production designer. Ilya’s current track record boasts more than 30 productions at various Moscow-based theatres (including the Bolshoi Theatre, Moscow Gorky Academic Art Theatre (MKhAT), and Mayakovsky Theatre) and over 50 film and television projects (including Michael Lockshin’s 2024 feature The Master and Margarita). Ilya Evdokimov is a member of the Moscow Artists’ Union since 2000 and of the Artists’ Union of Russia since 2020.
While painting his canvases, Evdokimov finds inspiration in the oeuvre of members of the Easel Painters’ Society who celebrated life in the Soviet Union. By augmenting the iconic romanticised imagery with elements of contemporary culture he bridges the gap between current art trends and the legacy of Soviet artists.
