Hong SungYong

about the artist

Born in 1976, South Korean artist SungYong Hong began his creative journey as a photographer, later turning to the medium of lenticular print that allows him to create the illusion of a layered and three-dimensional image. Pulling the viewer into the illusory depth of his pictures, the artist manages to combine the legacy of the 1960s American Op art and the eastern understanding of the human nature and our role in the universal order. Using simple geometric shapes – spirals, waves, and digital noise combinations – SungYong Hong explores the complex relationship between colour and depth, light and darkness.
