Public Talks and Art Performance: Activities to Enhance Your Experience of the Textile Art Exhibition
This September, Erarta Museum rolls out a series of events timed to coincide with the Entwinements: Textile Art Objects show
The events will introduce various artists featured in the exhibition, offering them a chance to share their thoughts on the multifaceted world of fibre art as well as some secrets of their trade. The activities will take place within the exhibition space on floor 5 of the Exhibitions Wing and are free to join for Erarta Members and Ticket holders.
At 19:00 on 7 September, Alexander Pilin will give a public talk Textile: A New Perspective.
At 19:00 on 17 September, Nataliya Tsvetkova will show her Living Loom performance art piece.
For this project, the artist reinterprets the traditional practice of ritual collective weaving, turning it into a game. During the performance, participating viewers will act as a human weaving loom, jointly entwining threads and experiencing the process of weaving not as onlookers, but from the inside – through movement, interaction, and rhythm.
In addition, at 19:00 on 21 September, Nataliya Tsvetkova will present a public talk Not Just Fabric: The Four Guises of Textile.
Ph. D., Associate Professor, member of the St. Petersburg Designers’ Union, Alexander Pilin holds the honorary title of Distinguished Artist of the Udmurt Republic and a number of Russian and international professional awards.
Art historian, artist, and lecturer, Nataliya Tsvetkova is Professor at the St. Petersburg Stieglitz State Academy of Art and Design, member of the St. Petersburg Artists’ Union, Designers’ Union, and Textile Workers Guild, as well as recipient of the St. Petersburg Municipal Government Art and Culture Award.
The events are intended for artists, designers, students of creative courses, and anyone wishing to know how traditional materials inspire artistic experiments.
The public talks are free for all holders of valid Erarta Tickets subject to registration through my Erarta account. The performance on 17 September can be joined by Erarta Members upon prior registration.
