The genre of “Measure of bodies” can be defined as a “free-style reconstruction of a scientific insight”. This is the first experience of cooperation between the two famous Russian theaters, working in the genre of contemporary dance and performance. The play is built over the well-known D. Mendeleev’s life story and the fact that he saw his famous scientific discovery in a dream. Everything happening on stage can be perceived as both dream and reality. The dancers are akin to the restless molecules — they love, suffer and experience all kind range of human emotions.

The esthetics of Provincial Dances Theatre is based on strong submission of external movement to internal movements. Synthesis of music, movement, light, suits, plastic expressiveness of the actors subordinated to main art idea is a major principle of existence of theatre. Theatre became famous in Russia and abroad as a unique avant-garde dance troupe. Theatre strives to be flexible, finding new ideas and artistic means of expression.

The company showed its first performance 1990.Today, the repertoire of the company includes 25 productions along with independent miniatures.

At the moment the company consists of 10 dancers and a few apprentices, which are trained using the methods and techniques of various European and American dance schools including ballet and various movement techniques, such as release technique, yoga, body conditioning and other techniques that provide skills necessary for separate projects.

Tatiana Baganova is the chief choreographer of the company. She is the owner of prizes and awards in the field of dance and theater both in Russia and behind its limits. Theatre actively cooperates with foreign choreographers.

Provincial Dances Theatre is a winner of numerous contemporary dance contests and festivals of high prestige (France — 1992,1995,2000; Germany — 1994); participant of different international and domestic theatrical, musical and choreographic festivals in Bangkok, London, Amsterdam, Rome, Paris, Nice, Dusseldorf, Bonn, Leipzig, Bolzano, Gdansk, Warsaw, Riga, Vilnus, Tallin, Tbilisi, Moscow, Saint Petersburg and many cities of Russia.
The company is a recipient of the Russian National Theatre Award “Golden Mask”, Awards of the Theatre Statesman Union of Russia, and others.

The Russian Engineering Theatre AKHE was founded by three members of Boris Ponizovski theatre “Yes — No” (Maksim Isaev, Pavel Semtchenko, Vadim Vasiliev) in 1989. Immediately the group announced itself as independent (in term of styles and forms) and started their activity in a performance, cinema, fineart's fields. From that time the group consists from two to seven members, but the permanent body are two persons — Maksim Isaev and Pavel Semtchenko.

From 1996 they count themselves more like theatre collective, created for the normal (in classical means) stage the performance “Cataloque of the Hero”. Since that time the group is permanent participant of theatre festivals in Russia and abroad. The members of the group take part in different theatre projects with other groups and theatres: Derevo (Rus- Germ), Lantaaren (Nederl.), Toihaus (Austr.), Slava Polunin (Russ.). They work as artists, stage designers, film directors. But they still use their education, working as the painters and designers for artictic and public places.

By virtue of told, and also, taking in acount a certain expeirence of AKHE group in the field of fine art, it is appropriate to speake about the group, as about Optical Theatre or Russian Engineering Theatre. AKHE uses scenic (ideal) Space including again (ideal) Light and Sound and consider themselves only as Operators. In this case the Space is one of the main characters of the show.

The space mastered by the Operators is valuable and sufficient itself. Without ignorance of the real Theatre laws, but admiring its Signs, AKHE substitutes with desire: dramatic art ( drama ) by logic development of images and situations, rehearsals by zombeing themselves and psychological play by ependence on elementary physical laws.
