collection

Erarta’s permanent collection features the entire spectrum of contemporary visual art genres, from painting and sculpture to video art and immersive spaces. On view in one of the museum building’s three major sections, it is however much larger than can be fit in this space, meaning that certain parts of the publicly displayed collection are being rotated on a regular basis.

To ensure that all artists have equal chances of being noticed by you, each of them is represented on our website with only one work that is nevertheless characteristic of his or her art. Pay us a visit – and you will see much more.
Keep in mind that relatively unknown artists sometimes create outstanding art, whereas not everything produced by the ‘big names’ in the art scene is uniformly admirable. We recommend that you start by trying to decode in each particular work the artist’s message to humankind and specifically to you (curatorial texts are there to help you get on this wavelength), decide how you feel about this message – and only then attempt to find out more about the artists you liked.

Building the collection, we cannot help thinking that these objects will outlive us and, just as our contemporaries gain insight into the past generations by looking at the paintings by the old masters in various museums, people of the future will learn about us largely through the surviving works of contemporary artists. Out of the diverse current creative practices, we would like to pass on to posterity the profoundly resonant art that speaks for itself, so that these strangers from the distant future require no interpreting intermediaries to realise that we were complex, pure, true to ourselves, and open to dialogue.
