On 17 and 18 May the Aqueduct Dance Company will present their new ballet “The 16th day” based on Vladimir Nabokov's novel "Invitation to a Beheading" at Erarta Stage.
“The 16th day” is the first Russian staging of the novel by Vladimir Nabokov "Invitation to a Beheading". The choreographer Konstantin Keykhel shares his impressions of the novel:
“I find the novel “Invitation to a Beheading” very theatrical. It contains so much action that sometimes you feel as an unwittingly imprisoned by the very text. For me, the main character Cincinnatus C is a hero from a fiction anti-utopia who cannot wake up from his long-drawn dream. His world is filled with numerous details from real life and real experiences: absurd and kindness, despair and love, wanderings and memories. At the same time he is surrounded by uncertainty and ambiguity resulting in absurd and fantastic events that leave the reader with a sense of delirium, occurring in the protagonist’s mind. For him the world is a theater played by the other people. He has no desire to exist within those who became functions and mechanisms. Who have no real feelings but short-term caprices. Whose world excludes anyone not playing by their rules”.
