Entropy (from the Greek ἐντροπία — "turn", "change") in the natural sciences is a measure of the chaos in a system. There is a theory of inevitable entropy extension. Any act only contributes to the Universal chaos and approaches the doomsday.

"The term is both scientific and philosophical", the artist says. "It means the systematic chaos that consists of the diverse elements; the accumulation of the various substances, existing in chaos and possessing diverse properties that come to unite system."

Both chaos and order play the key role in Dukhovlinov's paintings. The majority of works present the abstract compositions. The artist precisely adjusts the combination of colors, texture, and elements. Vladimir was graduated from the school of design and fine-arts n.a. V.I. Mukhina. He attentively works out any image - from a painting on canvas to a font for a printed edition. The additional, sometimes unusual techniques — the aquarelle painting, the collage, the black-chalk, using the iron details and diverse varnishes — complement to the artistic effects.

Vladimir Dukhovlinov is sure the painting surface itself hides a lot of curious options — the canvas may be stretched, sagged, warped, torn, seamed, weirdly patched, and darned.

The Vladimir Dukhovlinov exhibition is a retrospective. The display doesn't cover all his long creative life, however it surely gives the idea about its crucial stages.
