The exhibition of vintage photography named “Air France & KLM: the History of the World Airlines” starts at Erarta, the Museum of Contemporary Art on January 23. Black and white photographs will tell a story about these two airlines since their foundation

You will be able to see the first flight attendants and pilots, vintage airplanes and aircraft cabins with its interiors and daily working moments at the airports in the past.

There is also a large list of world celebrities who were on board the Air France and KLM aircrafts. You can see Maria Callas, an opera diva, Audrey Hepburn, a legendary actress, Catherine Deneuve, Ella Fitzgerald, a great jazz singer, and Princess Grace of Monaco in the pictures. At different times the Air France passengers were our famous compatriots such as Nikita Khrushchev, a politician, Galina Ulanova and Rudolf Nureyev, ballet dancers, and even Valentina Tereshkova, a Soviet cosmonaut.

The exhibition includes more than 80 photographs from 1930 to 1960 years. Some of them are kept in a unique archive of KLM airline which is located in Maria Austria Institute in Amsterdam. The other part was provided by the Institute of Cultural and Historical Heritage of Air France Airline.

The exhibition “Air France and KLM: the History of the World Airlines” is dedicated to the anniversary of the airlines. In 2013, Air France celebrated its 80th birthday. And in 2014 KLM will celebrate its 95th birthday.
