The exhibition’s title, Feminine, refers to a specific mode of worldly existence. Women are the ones who preserve and pass on the memory of previous generations and maintain the invisible human bonds, weaving random historical occurrences into a continuous fabric of time. Time itself passes differently in Ksenia Vlasova’s paintings: rather than flowing from past to future, it unfolds as one infinitely lasting continuity.

One might get the impression that very little is going on in these paintings. The female characters are speechless, their movements subdued, glances either directed inward or sweeping past the viewer. This apparent stillness, however, conceals unceasing inner movement, with repetition serving not as an ornamental device, but as a way to demonstrate the ways in which memory lives on in family lore, values, traditions, inherited gestures and inflections.

In Ksenia Vlasova’s art, one struggles to zero in on the most important element, as every figure, glance or empty space functions as a constituent part of an integral whole. Rhythm and symmetry, repetitions and pauses turn into a means of expression as equally important as palette or line.

The artworks featured in the show offer no definitive interpretations. Instead, they invite us to share in the sensation of memory as not merely an archive, but an animate structure connecting times and epochs.
