Dima ПЖ is a resonant name within the cosy world of art doll aficionados. Both the exhibition title and the artist’s alias suggest that a truly incredible story is about to unfold before the viewer’s eyes, and that is certainly the case. However, narrating this story is totally up to the viewer.

Passing in front of us is a procession of quaint types clad in bizarre costumes of unfathomable civilisations: a melancholy clown and a weary pilgrim, a benign queen and a perplexed king, a cute nun of some unknown religion, a jolly Freakasaurus and ‘Dad’s Oddball’ – seemingly right out of a kid’s drawing. Surely, the viewer is witness to some dramatic, perhaps even historical, events! But what exactly occurred in the insulated artistic universe that let escape these characters into our world? While the artist and his dolls remain emphatically silent, imagination alone can shed light on what never happened.
