Erarta at Piter Moto Fest: An Art Museum’s Take on Biker Culture
From 31 July through 2 August, the Expoforum Convention and Exhibition centre in St. Petersburg will play host to a major city-wide motorcycling culture festival. As a festival partner, Erarta will present an original art object created exclusively for the headliner exhibition of the forthcoming museum season – a celebration of the legendary motorcycle brand Harley-Davidson. The Spirit of Freedom.
The Bitumen Sun installation, designed as one of the festival’s centrepieces, visually and conceptually links the rugged aesthetics of biker culture and an art museum’s take on its main symbols. The artwork conveys the ideas of rough power, speed, and rebellion, encapsulating the emotional codes of Harley-Davidson that will be explored by the upcoming show at Erarta. The presence of this art piece on festival grounds acts as an invitation to reconsider the motorcycle as the source of creative expression.
The festival’s three consecutive days, from 31 July through 2 August, will be packed with spectacular shows and competitions, from freestyle MX, stunt riding, and strength challenges, to the Globe of Steel act and Miss Festival pageant. By night the festival grounds will turn into a gigantic dance floor, complete with live DJ sets and lounge areas. The main festival stage will showcase more than 20 music acts, including XOLIDAYBOY, L’ONE, Kaspiyskiy Gruz, BEARWOLF, and Komnata Kultury.
For Erarta Museum, its appearance at Piter Moto Fest is a way to reach out to a broader audience outside the conventional museum context and share an artistic vision of a subculture whose visual language crosses into contemporary art territory.
Harley-Davidson. The Spirit of Freedom, scheduled to run from 9 October 2026 through 24 January 2027, will feature original motorcycles, archive photographs, and videos telling the story of a brand epitomising the free and independent spirit of the road. Museum visitors will be able to take a closer look at the design of various bike models, see rare documents, and feel the spirit of superspeed and rock and roll that have been essential to the brand’s image for more than a century.
